Three arrogant leaders were arrested in Merapani on charges of demanding money under the name of Bahadur Lachit Sena. Businessman Palash Phukan was blackmailed and a demand for ₹50,000 was made. He was subsequently looted while the suspects arrived to collect the money in an Alto vehicle (Registration No. AS03C9444). The suspects were caught red-handed. The arrested individuals have been identified as: Raja Ahmed (General Secretary)Bittupan Sharma (Vice President)Pratap Saikia (Chief Secretary)These individuals used to flee after looting money from the local people. They traveled in a four-wheeler and routinely demanded ₹50,000 from citizens. The group had come from Golaghat. Their vehicle had “Bahadur Lachit Sena” written on it and featured black-tinted glass. Local residents have called for a ban on the use of such black-tinted glass on vehicles. The Terrorism Police (Antank Arakshi) have taken them into custody.
